Laboratory Tests

Filtration Effectiveness

Independent laboratory tests have evaluated Ecofiltro's performance in reducing specific contaminants under defined test conditions. Explore the available test results below.

Laboratory test results

Metal-specific test results

Laboratory tests showed varying levels of reduction depending on the metal tested:

  • Lead: at least 72% reduction
  • Cadmium: at least 90% reduction
  • Mercury: at least 90% reduction
  • Arsenic: 63–83% reduction

Glyphosate: more than 98% reduction

Laboratory testing showed a reduction of more than 98% in glyphosate under the test conditions, using a new filter.

Tested by LATU, Uruguay, 2025.

Microbiological laboratory report

See the AnalisaLab report for the specific organisms tested, measured results and test conditions (2025).

70 µm polystyrene bead test

No added 70 µm polystyrene beads were detected after filtration in a test on three units. Results apply to the tested samples and conditions (Measurlabs, report 15010, 2025).

Pharmaceutical Residue Reduction

Laboratory testing showed at least 75% reduction in 13 of the 14 pharmaceutical compounds tested, at low concentrations.

Tested by Measurlabs, 2024.

Lab Test Report

Laboratory test: 70 µm polystyrene beads

No added 70 µm polystyrene beads were detected after filtration in a test on three units. Each unit was conditioned with 50 litres of deionised water before a one-litre sample containing 1,000 beads was filtered. Results apply to this test and do not establish removal of every microplastic size or polymer (Measurlabs, report 15010, 12 February 2025).

70 µm polystyrene bead test

No added 70 µm polystyrene beads were detected after filtration in a test on three units. Each unit was conditioned with 50 litres of deionised water before a one-litre sample containing 1,000 beads was filtered. Results apply to this test and do not establish removal of every microplastic size or polymer (Measurlabs, report 15010, 12 February 2025).

  • Three filtering units tested
  • No added 70 µm polystyrene beads detected after filtration
  • Spiking-material recovery: 88.4%; this is a method control, not a removal percentage
Test Condition Result
Filtered Water (Initial Test) Some particles were recorded for units 1 and 3; unit 2 was below the reporting limit
Spiked Water (Polystyrene Test) No added 70 µm polystyrene beads detected in any of the three units
Recovery Validation 88.4% recovery of the spiking material

Results are specific to the tested samples and conditions. Other particles were recorded in some filtered samples.

Laboratory report: tested pharmaceutical substances

In a laboratory test on three filter units, 13 of 14 tested substances were reduced below the laboratory’s quantification limit of 0.010 µg/L. Initial concentrations were 0.043–0.057 µg/L. Benzotriazole was not consistently reduced. Results apply to the tested samples and conditions (Measurlabs, report 15544, 5 December 2024).

Tested substances: results below quantification

In a laboratory test on three filter units, 13 of 14 tested substances were reduced below the laboratory’s quantification limit of 0.010 µg/L. Initial concentrations were 0.043–0.057 µg/L. Benzotriazole was not consistently reduced. Results apply to the tested samples and conditions (Measurlabs, report 15544, 5 December 2024).

Substance Initial Concentration (µg/L) After Filtration (µg/L) Efficiency
Amisulprid 0.049 < 0.010 At least 75% reduction
Beta Estradiol 0.049 < 0.010 At least 75% reduction
Candesartan 0.050 < 0.010 At least 75% reduction

AnalisaLab microbiological results

The linked AnalisaLab report lists results for the organisms tested in 2025. The table shows reported concentrations without a calculated reduction rate.

Testing conducted: June 2025 (AnalisaLab)

Substance Initial Concentration (MPN/100ml) After Filtration (MPN/100ml)
Total Coliforms > 23 < 1.1
Fecal Coliforms > 23 < 1.1
E. Coli > 23 < 1.1

Filtering unit lifespan

Ecofiltro recommends replacing the filtering unit every two years.

In a laboratory test, two Ecofiltro filtering units were tested through 5,000 litres. No total coliforms were detected in the filtered samples at the tested stages, including at 5,000 litres (LAE, Mexico, 2023, report 23-0228).

The test assessed performance over a volume of water, rather than two calendar years of use.

Glyphosate reduction under test conditions

Glyphosate concentration fell from 415 µg/L to 6 µg/L using a new filter: a reduction of more than 98% under the test conditions (LATU, report 2224510, analysis dated 18 June 2025).

Substance Initial Concentration After Filtration Efficiency
Free residual chlorine (Cl2) 2.70 mg/L < 0.049 mg/L More than 98% reduction
Glyphosate 415 µg/L 6 µg/L More than 98% reduction

Chlorine is a separate test parameter, not a pesticide. These results describe the new-filter sample; the one-year-used filter result differs.
