How Ecofiltro Works

Everything you need to know about our natural filtration technology: from installation and six-month maintenance to the final repurposing of the unit.
Our Technology

The Filtration Process

Ecofiltro uses a porous ceramic filtration unit made from clay and sawdust, with colloidal silver applied to the ceramic surface after firing. Water passes through the unit by gravity, without electricity.

First Use

Setting Up Your Ecofiltro

Initially, the filtration process may be slow due to the pores of the ceramic material opening. This may result in a clay-like taste in the water. For optimal taste, it is recommended to discard the water from the initial few filtrations and empty the container several times, periodically assessing the taste.

  • The 5L Ecofiltro filters 1–2 glasses of water per hour at first, gradually increasing to about 1L per hour.

  • The 20L Ecofiltro filters 3–4 glasses of water per hour at first, gradually increasing to about 2L per hour.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Never wash the filtering unit with soap, leave it to dry out, expose it to direct sunlight, or use it to filter seawater.

Quick Answers

Learn More

Is it normal for the water to taste like clay at first?

Yes, a slight earthy taste may be noticeable during initial use. Follow the manufacturer's preparation instructions before drinking the filtered water. Do not assume that water is safe to drink solely because it has passed through the filter.

What contaminants does Ecofiltro remove?

Ecofiltro's filtration performance has been evaluated through laboratory testing for specific substances. Results vary depending on the contaminant and test conditions.

Available test results include evaluations of coliforms, glyphosate, selected heavy metals, specific polystyrene particles, PFAS and pharmaceutical compounds. Please refer to the individual laboratory reports for the results and limitations of each test.

Is it normal for the filtration rate to be slow at the beginning?

Yes, filtration may be slower during initial use. The flow rate can vary depending on the filter model and conditions of use. Follow the manufacturer's preparation and maintenance instructions.

How often does the filter unit need to be replaced?

The manufacturer recommends replacing the filter unit every two years. Actual service life may depend on usage, water quality and maintenance. Bacterial filtration performance has been evaluated up to 5,000 litres under the specific test conditions.

How should i dispose of the used filter unit if I choose not to repurpose it?

If you choose not to repurpose the used filter unit, follow the manufacturer's disposal guidance and local waste-management requirements.
